Son of Even More Conservative Disgust With Hezbollah Cease-Fire

George Will.

Cal Thomas.

And providing a muted "not as bad as others are saying" type response:

Noah Pollak.

Norman Podhoretz.

Color me unswayed by the minority of conservatives who don't think this was a disaster for our position in the War on Terror.

The fall of the Olmert government may well bring a more hawkish administration to power. Fine. But in the meantime, Israel will not get much done, Olmert's successor will be saddled with a people and an army rattled by the previous loss, and world opinion will undoubtedly shift against Israel's "disturbing" political shift.

It's like saying the Battle of Kasserine Pass was a terrific learning experience. Maybe so, but imagine what we might have done to the Nazis had we managed to save the tanks and men tossed away on that day.

Better to have fought and won this time than to hope for a better hand next time.

To spin it positive or negative is, after all is said and done, just spin. Like you, I'll take a victory over a defeat any day. It would appear the defeat was inevitable, owing most to the deficiencies in both the Israeli political leadership and its chosen military leaders. But, sadly the Israelis have the government they chose, albeit with some meddling by American leftist political advisors, i.e., James Carville. The feckless involvement of the Bush State Department in the debacle notwithstanding, the blame, if there must be blame, rests most resoundingly with the Olmert government and it's military appointees. I'll shut up before you suggest I get my own blog. Thanks for the opportunity to vent.

LT-

Insightful as always---Israel is clearly the prime actor here, but in coalition warfare, we cannot afford to have Foggy Bottom kowtowing to Kofi at the expense of our allies.

Hezbollah killed 19 of our airmen in the Khobar Towers---why should we do anything but help Israel kill every last one of them?

And yes, you need to get your own blog. If you don't like being tied to the Google Evil Empire (and believe me, if my web host supported Movable Type I'd be out of here), Townhall.com makes it really easy.
