Are You A Liberal Who Loves America?

If so, please prove Dean Barnett wrong by rising to his challenge:

But I’ll make them a deal – I’ll take it back when a critical mass of liberal bloggers or columnists (actually even just a handful) manages to write an essay on why they love America. Hell, I even settle for an essay by some of the annoying lefty commenters on this site. Yes, Snapdigger, Briggsy and Toady – I’m calling you out. Mind you, the task calls for writing an essay on America as it currently is, not America as it will be after everyone sees the light once they’ve read “The Conservative Soul” and attended The Yearly Kos.


You also can’t write an essay professing a love for an America that once was, you know the one that completely vanishes whenever liberals lose an election like they did in 2000. Again, the essay has to be on why you love America as it actually is. Today.


To be frank, I don’t think people like Snapdigger and Glenn Greenwald can write such an essay. The sad part is, I bet both could have done so the week after 9/11. And that’s really the heart of my message – political concerns have caused the American left to completely lose its moral bearings. I’d be delighted to receive evidence to the contrary since there’s a pretty decent chance the left will be choosing the next president and that guy will reflect their worldview.

I believe that there are a handful of liberals who truly love America, but I've seen so much vitriol heaped upon her since 9/11 that I no longer believe there to be more than a handful.

You cannot be an adherent of the "Blame America First" school and claim to be a patriot.

We'll see if the few, the proud, the liberal patriots turn up in force to refute this claim, but given Barnett's rules of engagement, I'll be shocked if there are many who do.
