Why the Left Wing Media Won't Report Obama's Lies

Roger Simon:

And now we learn of yet another strange obfuscation or omission. In 1996, Obama was apparently a member of the Chicago “New Party,” a now defunct socialist political party of some stripe or other.

There’s nothing wrong with being a socialist. I called myself one for the better part of twenty years. Millions of people have and many still do. But there is something very wrong with hiding who you are or who you were from the electorate—especially if you want to be President of the United States. Yet that seems to be a habit of Mr. Obama’s, with the collusion of the press. To my knowledge, no one in the mainstream media has begun to inquire into the details of Obama’s curiously unreported years at Columbia and Harvard, although much could be relatively easily ascertained. Obama himself has not been remotely forthcoming about them.

The inescapable conclusion is that Barack Obama is a highly deceptive, often dishonest individual. Again, many would say this is standard operating procedure for politicians in our culture (and most others too). But Obama presents himself as something different, a new kind of post-modern politician above the conventional dirty dealings of backroom politics.

Of course, by now that is something of a joke—yet the press is loath to admit it or to do much to balance the investigative reporting equation. They don’t even begin. What is the explanation for this? The most obvious reasons are bias and the desire to defeat the opposing candidate. But beneath these obvious explanations, I sense something more complex and pathological. Deeper fears are perhaps at play - the loss of self-image and personality disintegration, also a desperate need to conform to a fragile peer group. And in these times more than ever, a yet more potent terror – job loss.

I vote for sheer tribalism. Obama's one of them. They protect their own.

I agree. Let's fight media bias together. There's been a lot of talk in the corporate media about a Obama/Ayers "association". Some claim that it's been a long time coming.

But I'm still waiting for John McCain to denounce his unwholesome relationship with G. Gordon Liddy. Where is the moral outrage, and who hears cries of conspiracy from the Right regarding mainstream media's suppression of this story?

Read the nasty details in THIS LINK to an article from May.

Here are some highlights:

“How close are McCain and Liddy? At least as close as Obama and Ayers appear to be. In 1998, Liddy's home was the site of a McCain fundraiser. Over the years, he has made at least four contributions totaling $5,000 to the senator's campaigns -- including $1,000 this year.

Last November, McCain went on his radio show. Liddy greeted him as "an old friend," and McCain sounded like one. "I'm proud of you, I'm proud of your family," he gushed. "It's always a pleasure for me to come on your program, Gordon, and congratulations on your continued success and adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great.
Which principles would those be? The ones that told Liddy it was fine to break into the office of the Democratic National Committee to plant bugs and photograph documents? The ones that made him propose to kidnap anti-war activists so they couldn't disrupt the 1972 Republican National Convention? The ones that inspired him to plan the murder (never carried out) of an unfriendly newspaper columnist?

Liddy was in the thick of the biggest political scandal in American history -- and one of the greatest threats to the rule of law. He has said he has no regrets about what he did, insisting that he went to jail as "a prisoner of war."

All this may sound like ancient history. But it's from the same era as the bombings Ayers helped carry out as a member of the Weather Underground. And Liddy's penchant for extreme solutions has not abated.

In 1994, after the disastrous federal raid on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas, he gave some advice to his listeners: "Now if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms comes to disarm you and they are bearing arms, resist them with arms. Go for a head shot; they're going to be wearing bulletproof vests. ... Kill the sons of bitches."

He later backed off, saying he meant merely that people should defend themselves if federal agents came with guns blazing. But his amended guidance was not exactly conciliatory: Liddy also said he should have recommended shots to the groin instead of the head. If that wasn't enough to inflame any nut cases, he mentioned labeling targets "Bill" and "Hillary" when he practiced shooting.”

Perhaps you can tell us the name of the 9 year old boy G. Gordon Liddy firebombed because his father was a New York judge. Or give us the details on how G.Gordon Liddy launched John McCain's political career by holding a meet-and-greet at his home with the local politicos. Or point us to the major education initiative G. Gordon Liddy worked on with John McCain for some 7 years. Or list the many lies John McCain has told when questioned about his relationship with G. Gordon Liddy, including that "He was just a guy from my neighborhood."

Of course you can't do anything of the sort, but you can replace "G. Gordon Liddy" with "Terrorist scumbag Bill Ayers" and "John McCain" with "Barack Obama" in the above and you'll have a nice little story for the front page.

Funny how it hasn't appeared yet, though, huh?

"Teflon"

What a perfect moniker for you. How appropriate it is for someone who believes they can dispute a point by deflecting it.

Self-refuting comments are tidy, anyway.

You'll notice that the post you're commenting on is about Obama's lies and the Left Wing Media not being willing to report the numerous howlers he's been caught in, including several lies about his relationship with terrorist Bill Ayres.

Your response is to deflect the question by saying the media ought to look into McCain's supposed relationship with G.Gordon Liddy, which you natter on about at length.

I then respond that Liddy would indeed be relevant had he firebombed a 9-year-old, as Ayers did, or had he launched McCain's political career, as Ayers did, or had he served on a major education initiative for years with McCain, as Ayers did. This brought us back around to the original point.

You then accuse me of deflection.

The reason my nickname is Teflon is that it's so very hard for Lefty seminar bloggers to get their talking points to stick with me. It is because I insist upon staying on point.

But I'm glad you believe that Obama's links to Ayers ought to be investigated---or did your scare quotes in your first comment indicate deceit?

Your post accuses the media of being biased because your skewed perspective didn't drive the coverage. Of course I understand that you want your opinion overrepresented in the media. Plenty of idealogues feel the same way.

I pointed out an analogous story that is actually being ignored by the media altogether, and gave you an opportunity to stand up for your expressed principles and call for the MSM to devote equal time to McCain's shady association- an association, by the way, that he has never denounced (unlike Obama).

You failed to do so. As expected, your concern isn't that the media is "biased", but rather that it's not biased in favor of the candidate you support (which is a subjective assessment that I find invalid anyway). I have no problem with McCain whining until the MSM gave six full days of coverage to a story that has no relevance to the presidential race. All it did was turn off centrist voters, and expose the empty core of an argument that Limbaugh, Hannity, and FOX have been flogging desperately for months.

You're not "staying on point", but rather attempting to repeat lies until they come true. Therefore you have so much crap sticking to you that your vision has become cloudy.

Which would be all well and good if I supported McCain.

The Left Wing Media in fact HAS been biased toward John McCain---they were throughout the primaries, they were in 2000, they were whenever he was playing the maverick and thumbing the eyes of conservatives.

But keep posing as a centrist---the question, as anyone can see, is why you're so anxious to make Bill Ayers go away.

Invoking G. Gordon Liddy isn't going to get you there---G. Gordon Liddy didn't blow up anything, didn't kill anybody, and didn't run around afterward claiming he'd wished he'd been more radical.

I'm wondering why Obamunists such as yourself don't simply wave that anti-American flag proudly. Why not rally around Bill Ayres and the Weather Underground?

Do you lack the courage of your convictions?
