Best New Show

A&E's "Intervention." It's not for the squeamish, but ohohohoh. Like a trainwreck. You can't look away. What guilty goodness.

First episode I caught: The Little Princess Who Had Everthing She Ever Wanted, Meth Addict.
This girl was a pageant contender and married young & pregnant (with Mom and Dad to foot the bill). When her marriage began falling apart, she chose meth as a coping mechanism. 'Cuz meth would be, I don't know, ANYONE'S first choice, right? I know it would be mine. Skip the drinks and the prescription pills. Skip the therapy and the Paxil. Give me some METH!

She lost her husband, her job, her house, her car and custody of her daughter. Because instead of working, she chose to get high all day. She stole checks and washed them with acid to forge cash amounts on them so she could buy more drugs. She stayed out all night, came and went as she pleased, and even did drugs at her home. Oh, that's right I forgot to tell you -- she lived with her parents. This girl lived better than most married people. She was well dressed , well fed, always had perfect makeup on and a dark tan in the middle of the Minnesota winter. Her parents yelled at her every now and then but didn't once enforce any rules with consistency. They let her use their car, for the love of Pete!

That's why this is watchable. You are watching the suffering of a human being, but you are also watching that person make their own choices -- of their own freee will -- and also witness firsthand the mechanisms that keep them from getting help, as well as the process of how they got there. There's not been a sad ending yet. And everyone featured on the show has gotten help and recovered well.

Tune in on Sunday nights.
