The End of the Myth of "Hitler's Pope"

Nazi documents shred the long-standing calumny against Pope Pius XII.

The Pope did more to save Jewish lives while surrounded by hostile fascists than FDR did, most famously when he refused to allow Jewish Holocaust refugees from the S.S. St Louis to land in the U.S. after Kristallnacht.

It says something about America that for generations we have spat upon a man who did everything in his power and much that was not at great personal risk to save Jews and lionized a man who sent a boatload of Jews back to occupied Europe to face the ovens in the coldest political calculus of modern times.

It is especially grievous that so many American Catholics and Jews alike voted for the latter and thus perpetuated his power.
