Palm Sunday

Tomorrow is Palm Sunday, the most ambivalent Christian holy day.

On the one hand, commemorating Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem cannot help but fill one with hope and joy. The King at hand at last!

On the other hand, we know that many of the very same people cheering Christ will soon call for his torture and death.

Could any ritual be more perfect than the burning of the palms from Palm Sunday to produce the ashes for Ash Wednesday the following year?
