The Purpose of Bureaucracy
To apportion power without accountability as widely as possible.
Famed Austrian School economist Ludwig von Mises had an interesting corrollary: the purpose of government is to use its monopoly on violence to create shortages.
Let that sink in---you'll see how elegant and apt that description is. Savor it.
Then ask yourself why Washington invariably creates yet another bureaucracy whenever politicians get criticized. When you need to solve a problem, you never create a bureaucracy, unless the problem you're solving is too much transparency and accountability for comfort.
Makes sense, doesn't it?
