This reform was covered about a month ago on (I think) McNeil-Lehrer, and it was really interesting to watch. I hope it catches on, too. It's been quite the experience as a student teacher hearing complaints about underperforming teachers and the accompanying frustration that nothing will be done about them. I definitely hope this catches on, but I'm not holding my breath. And YES I'm concerned about having to join a union if and when I am employed.
