Goodnight, Peter

Peter Jennings, dead of lung cancer at 67.

My father and eldest brother died of lung cancer; my father at 73, my brother at 49. In my father's case, he had given up smoking some 20 years before his death, having smoked heavily prior to that for nearly 40 years. My brother didn't quit until his terminal illness.

Lung cancer is a terrible killer. Even if it goes into remission, it almost invariably returns. Once cancerous cells are found in your lungs, they migrate easily throughout your organs, including liver and brain.

My heart goes out to Jennings' family in their time of grief.
