Clinton-Powell in '08?

Somehow, I doubt it:

Is is too much to speculate that Colin Powell is looking for a job in the Hillary administration, either as SecDef, or more likely, as Veep? A Hillary-Colin ticket would run strongly in the media, the first resort of a Washington-centric establishment. It would mobilize the black vote, which is showing worrying signs of doubt about the great benevolence of the Democrats. It would bring out liberal women, and the larger sucker vote. Powell may not be the most vigorous candidate, but it wouldn’t matter. The media would cover for him.

Powell wouldn't do this for 3 reasons:

1. He's already cast his lot with John McCain, who will give him everything he wants (SecDef and glowing press).

2. He wouldn't add much to the Dem ticket---blacks vote 90 pct Democrat to begin with; Hillary may well be to Powell's right on national security.

3. He wouldn't have any influence in Democrat circles---he'd instantly go from the LWM's favorite Republican to someone of questionable loyalty to the Democrat cause.

Notice none of these reasons include loyalty or a sense of honor---decades of inside-the-Beltway backstabbing have eroded any of these qualities the general may have possessed.

You're right about Powell for all the reasons you say, but "Hillary may well be to Powell's right on national security."
Heh, heh, heh... I don't know about that.
