The Mystery of Election 2008
Why isn't property rights a bigger issue?
As property rights erode, so too does our political and economic freedom. If the government can dictate what you do with what you own, you don't own it. The government does.
We've already seen how a refusal to punish crimes against property has led to burgeoning crime rates and white flight from cities. It is obvious that criminal careers begin with crimes against property and escalate to crimes against persons.
We've seen the economic impact of this assault on property rights by government, in the form of land speculation (the engine of the housing bubble) and in constant relocation.
America is fast becoming a first rate economic power with Third World property laws.

Unfortunately, the condition you describe may also describe a growing support for socialism (or worse) by too many of our sitting politicians.
