Oh, and it should be noted that in the military, all officers and a sizeable chunk of the NCOs have college degrees, many from better schools than the University of Maine at Orono, and most with more useful degrees than a B.A. in English.

What an asinine comment to make. I've never liked King's writing. And I *have* a B.A. in English.
Seems to me a lot of people who wanted to get higher education often joined the military so they'd have help making it happen--is that not true anymore?
