Discovery Channel's Greatest American # 7: Bill Clinton
Well, if getting impeached were the defining characteristic of greatness, I guess Richard Nixon and Andrew Johnson would join Bill Clinton on Mount Rushmore.
Clinton's inclusion on this list is simply silly.
What exactly did he accomplish?
Healthcare failed. He was held at gunpoint on welfare reform, which has been a mild success.
He torched a bunch of kids at Waco.
He sent Haitians and Cubans paddling back to their homelands across shark-infested waters.
He successfully pressured Serbs to cease genocide against Muslims in Bosnia (although unfortunately we didn't get much good will from them out of that).
He hammered out a faux peace plan in the Middle East which fell apart shortly thereafter.
He gutted our military.
He destroyed our intelligence capability.
He stained a dress in the Oval Office.
Now, I will grant that he single-handedly destroyed the Democratic political powerhouse which had dominated American politics since the New Deal.
So he gets my vote after all.
