Kurosawa Film Festival

WordGirl and I are in the midst of a NetFlix-enabled Kurosawa film festival, featuring a handful of movies by the late great Japanese director.

First up was "Rashomon", concerning a rape considered from several competing viewpoints. I've seen it a handful of times; WG hadn't seen it since college. Much more compelling than "The Accused".

Next was "Red Beard", a melodrama about a doctor tending to the poor in a remote village. I thought it would be "Dr Kildare vs. Barugon" but it actually proved to be one of those movies you simply cannot turn away from, even though the run time's 3-hours + and your bladders the size of a bongo drum.

Tonight's selection will be either "Rhapsody in August" or his WWII propaganda film "The Most Beautiful."

And yes, "Throne of Blood", "Kagemusha", and "The Seven Samurai" are in the queue. We've seen "Ran" and "Hidden Fortress" recently so we'll be skipping those this time out.
