The New "Icarian" Ideal

Madame Tussauds' First Wax Baby

The First Wax Depiction of the New Nuclear Family?
* unmarried
* co-habiting
* formed in adultery
* "diverse" in affiliation
* veritably destined to scatter and fling at least 3 children to the winds
* destined to be cast and recast in similarly positive lights nonetheless

Am I too cynical? I resist the urge to sound like Debbie Downer all the time, but I just can't help it. There is so much to be frustrated about here. Sorry.

It's just that after taking great pains to do everything right (not perfect, mind you, but right) it galls the hell out of me to see this held up as an ideal. My husband and I did not move in together until we were officially a Mr. and Mrs.; neither of us has ever been married before; neither of us has children from previous encounters; and we do our best to keep the roles, respects and duties of husband and wife intact.

We understand that not everyone has made the best decisions along their way; we understand divorce, children born out of wedlock, and co-habitation. But we also, above all else, condone the acknowledgment of one's missteps and repentance through God's correction, followed through with proper action. Poor decisions do not have to continue forever. There exists an active "turning back" from error, a "turning around and going the right way"; that's what "repentance" means. We would be far harsher to the outside world had we not experienced this "turning around" for ourselves. It is a hard detour, but one that makes all the difference.

The numbing of the collective societal conscience into a state of total disregard for the precepts of God (and possible investigation into why they might be beneficial -- regardless of one's religious beliefs) and the din of "me first" and "to hell with whomever gets in my way" leaves so many children, spouses and hearts in a heap of smoking rubble. With the greater-than-ever preponderance of these situations, it's no wonder the world is so broken.

If you can't acknowledge God in Christ can't you at least acknowledge the benefit of utilizing basic Ethics?

Oh, right... which Ethics? According to whom?

*sigh*

What we have become...

Oh, WG

We have become a nation of “irresponsible, self-congratulatory, head-stuck-in-the-sand, egotistical” weasels. With no care for anyone other than ourselves and our hand out to the government for freebies, we certainly don’t need God in our lives — let alone His morality. With got our own...thank you very much.

Of course, what people don’t know is their whole idea of morals and ethics is borrowed capital from the Lord, our God. Without that magnificent book He sent us — we would have no idea of what morals are. But, now, we are so smart we can just make up morals as we go.

After Jesus gave us some great moral advise at the Mount of Olives, he closed by saying:

"Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on the rock. The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn't collapse, because its foundation was on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of Mine and doesn't act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. And its collapse was great!"(Matthew 7:24-27)

One day, everyone will discover exactly where their house is built.
