Great Moments in Political Prognostication

Hugh Hewitt yesterday: Like Reagan in '76, Romney Is Staying In
Hugh Hewitt today: Governor Romney

Worth keeping in mind lest anyone listen to what Hugh Hewitt has to say tomorrow.

As has become typical of Hewitt, he doesn't acknowledge how farcically wrong he was, but he takes the liberty to accuse those who opposed Romney's nomination of anti-Mormon bigotry. One supposes those Mormons who did so must be "self-hating Mormons" in Hewitt's mind.

Hewitt needs to get off the Left Coast and visit some actual conservatives. The man is so far out of touch that his constant attempts to play the consummate insider have exited Funny and reached the suburbs of Sad.

C'mon, Hugh---surely you could use some of that "A Mormon in the White House" money to vacation in Red America.

A Blog After Our Own Hearts

Excellent coverage and terrible web design from the No Free Lunch journal's blog.

Web design may not be free, but it's pretty cheap and well worth the investment, folks.

BlogRoll Addition

I Can Has Cheezburger had to go on the list.

The cats are killin' me. For real. I thought I could resist. I know, I know -- LOLCATS are sooooo 2007. But since I actually own a cat now... [shrug] They're funnier. They even make Tef laugh. So love 'em or hate 'em, they're on the 'Roll.

Back from Vacation

I've had a bit of a holiday from blogging while wrapping things up at work and engaging in some year-end projects. My real vacation is now beginning, which means blogging more regularly over the next few weeks.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the MoltenThinkers who continue to bear with WordGirl and me.

Slack Bloggers

Work continues to be a monstrous time toilet for me at the moment, which when combined with a real disgust with the GOP 2008 presidential field and the Bush Administration's weak and pernicious diffidence regarding Iranian nuclear ambitions makes posts fewer and further between from me. I consider it key to wellness.

I continue to monitor the news; I simply have nothing to say about it which would be more useful than a full-throated rant. And so I keep my blogging powder dry.

Bloglossary: Gravy Boat

gravy boat n.

1. A way to interject your own experience into someone else's conversation while not seeming narcissistic or overbearing.
2. A way to mark your place in their conversation in order to come back to you and your relevant experience after they are done speaking.

Speaker A: "I've always dreamed of having my wedding on a boat."
Speaker B: "Ooh! GRAVY BOAT! I once sang at a wedding on a boat!"

Speaker A: [telling a long story about a thrilling cliff diving excursion]
Speaker B: "GRAVY BOAT! Remind me to tell you what happened to my best friend when she went cliff diving."

You know what. I've been thinking about this a little more and I think this is a great idea. Not as a conversational device, but the actual gravy boat thing. I believe I need to up my gravy intake.

Announcing---The MoltenCast!

WordGirl and I have a special treat for all you MoltenThinkers out there---the MoltenCast!

Sure, there are plenty of those podcast thingies out there, but only at MoltenThought will you find the MoltenCast, featuring our patented Hot, Blue, and Righteous formula.

Now how much would you pay?

But wait---there's more!

Every now and again, whenever we feel like it, WordGirl and I will take our positions in the MoltenStudio to serve up a heapin' helpin' of audio goodness which we will master on the spot into a highly refined aural program custom-designed for your listening pleasure.

Too good to be true?

At least by half.

What do I have to do to get this deal?

Send no money---just let your mouse wander over to the right side of the screen and click until you hear the dulcet tones of our MoltenCast bumper music. Until I get our embedded controls working, the easiest way to do this will be to right-click on the link, select Open in New Window, and wait with bated breath (not baited breath, that's your fish) until the audio begins.

What's the catch?

There is none! Well, aside from the fact that every time you click on the MoltenCast John Ashcroft and Dick Cheney torture another innocent Al Qaeda member at the behest of the board of Halliburton and the Council on Foreign Relations.

I just finished listening to one of your podcasts .. I am duly impressed! You all have great voices and kept the conversation moving. Well done! You all must be in radio or some similar business. If it were me trying to do that, I'd be hemming and hawing after a couple minutes ... and you all kept it entertaining the entire time.

Awww, thanks, Martin! No, neither of us works in radio, but we do both talk a lot... One of us more than the other. [Three guesses who I mean.]

We've been a little on edge about whether or not the whole MoltenCast thing would fly with our readers, so your encouragement is a nice shot in the arm.

Hopefully, the 'casts will get better and better as they progress and we'll get it down to a nice formulaic set.

Keep listening! And thanks again!

BlogRoll: The Lamplighter

With Tax Day looming, isn't it about time MoltenThought added some libertarian flavor to its BlogRoll?

The Lamplighter is a great blog run by a retired naval aviator named Mike which is well-written, well-travelled, and well-regarded. Libertarians in the past have been ill-served by being too wonky and impractical; arguing any contemporary issue with the likes of say, Reason magazine writers quickly becomes an exercise in mind-numbing futility. Mike's the rarest of birds, then---a libertarian with the strength of his convictions and the good humor to put them forth absent the usual abstraction and pedantry.

Liberalism is a creature of the emotion and the heart; conservatism has ever been a beast of the gut; libertarianism's anima is pure reason. In the normal scheme of things, what chance has reason against heart and gut?

Check out the Lamplighter and you'll find a case for the libertarian cause which feeds more than your head---I can feel it in my gut.
