Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, who recently proposed an educational policy that urged "every financial barrier" be removed for American kids who want to go to college, has been going to college himself -- as a high paid speaker, his financial records show.

The candidate charged a whopping $55,000 to speak at to a crowd of 1,787 the taxpayer-funded University of California at Davis on Jan. 9, 2006 last year, Joe Martin, the public relations officer for the campus' Mondavi Center confirmed Monday.

That amount -- which comes to about $31 a person in the audience -- included Edwards' travel and airfare, and was the highest speaking fee in the nine appearances he made before colleges and universities last year, according to his financial records.

No amount of these stories ever seem to prompt the media to puncture the Democrats' "Man of the People" schtick.

They have always been money-grubbing, demagoguing, power-hungry little weasels and always will be, no matter how much the LWM fawns over their little princes.

The US military, the last bastion of credibility in the war, is now the primary target of the media and the enemies of the war. Almost like a plan. Not hatched as a coherent and complete arrangement in some dark, smoke filled room. No conspiracy is alleged. Rather, there is a certain momentum that is a product of groupthink. This confluence of widely-shared perceptions and attitudes has taken on a life of its own, the like-minded feeding off the ideas of others, then amplified in the media.

They smell blood in the water, and turn their attention to the military. Their reasoning is that if they can turn the American People against the military, then the war effort will become unsustainable. But they must be very careful in manipulating the story. They have learned their lesson from Viet Nam. The backlash from attacking the troops directly robbed them of much of their credibility. They will not make that mistake again.

The military, of course, will never make the mistake of trusting media girlymen again post-Vietnam, so my money's (always) on our folks in uniform.

Point 1: You actually aren't in the American mainstream. The American mainstream is miles to the right of you politically, and in a different universe from you culturally.

In a year when Bill Clinton earned only 43% of American votes cast, 92% of the LWM voted for him according to a contemporary media survey. In 1996, Bill Clinton's numbers rose to 49% of American voters and 96% of LWM voters respectively. There is no Democrat voting block which voted in a more kneejerk lockstep fashion for their candidate than did the media.

Say what you will about that, but those are statistically significant results.

And don't even think about asking why Barrack Obama's belonging to a racist church isn't controversial. Maybe because the hoi polloi can't get enough of racist black preachers who use profanity in the pulpit? The audacity of hope, indeed.

But we've all seen what happens to clergymen who take their faith too far and start thinking it calls them to oppose the left wing dominance of American culture. After all, Democrats haven't been for the littlest of the little guys since at least the 1970s.

The Republicans, for their part, think Americans are stupid enough to fall for the "personally opposed to abortion" dodge. I'm personally opposed to smashing in the elderly's heads with hammers. Does that mean I can pass legislation to allow it, accept money from those who do it, and praise the choice to do so with a clear conscience?

It's enough to make some people want to replace the church with a Bible study group. Somehow, I don't think this was what Christ had in mind. But then, he didn't have a praise band, and relied on the spoken word to preach. So what did he know anyway?

The Left Wing Media doesn't want you to know these people exist, since they prefer to reserve the "moderate" label for violent radical Islamists with a sufficiently solid record of hating Jews.

Yet there are moderate Muslims, and they issued a declaration in St. Petersburg, Florida which should be trumpeted in every newspaper and on every news program across this land:

We are secular Muslims, and secular persons of Muslim societies. We are believers, doubters, and unbelievers, brought together by a great struggle, not between the West and Islam, but between the free and the unfree.

We affirm the inviolable freedom of the individual conscience. We believe in the equality of all human persons.

We insist upon the separation of religion from state and the observance of universal human rights.

We find traditions of liberty, rationality, and tolerance in the rich histories of pre-Islamic and Islamic societies. These values do not belong to the West or the East; they are the common moral heritage of humankind.

We see no colonialism, racism, or so-called "Islamaphobia" in submitting Islamic practices to criticism or condemnation when they violate human reason or rights.

We call on the governments of the world to:

reject Sharia law, fatwa courts, clerical rule, and state-sanctioned religion in all their forms; oppose all penalties for blasphemy and apostasy, in accordance with Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human rights;

eliminate practices, such as female circumcision, honor killing, forced veiling, and forced marriage, that further the oppression of women;

protect sexual and gender minorities from persecution and violence;

reform sectarian education that teaches intolerance and bigotry towards non-Muslims;

and foster an open public sphere in which all matters may be discussed without coercion or intimidation.

We demand the release of Islam from its captivity to the totalitarian ambitions of power-hungry men and the rigid strictures of orthodoxy.

We enjoin academics and thinkers everywhere to embark on a fearless examination of the origins and sources of Islam, and to promulgate the ideals of free scientific and spiritual inquiry through cross-cultural translation, publishing, and the mass media.

We say to Muslim believers: there is a noble future for Islam as a personal faith, not a political doctrine;

to Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Baha'is, and all members of non-Muslim faith communities: we stand with you as free and equal citizens;

and to nonbelievers: we defend your unqualified liberty to question and dissent.

Before any of us is a member of the Umma, the Body of Christ, or the Chosen People, we are all members of the community of conscience, the people who must choose for themselves.

Isn't it interesting that NBC News won't show any more clips of the planes ramming into the World Trade Center for fear that it might inspire Americans to an angry response, yet pooh-poohs notions that constantly replaying the sick video of the Virginia Tech murderer would inspire copycats?

Just minutes ago, as I write this afternoon, it was announced that NBC received a package from Cho Sueng-Li. Apparently he taped his own cd, a myface/youtube style documentary of himself waving his weapons and propounding on his socio-economic "reasons" for embarking on a mass slaughter rampage.

And NBC is going to air it, at least in part. Possibly different parts on different days. So we'll stay tuned and NBC's ratings will increase.

I refuse to watch it, so I'll report what NBC News President Steven Capus said. The material is "hard-to-follow...disturbing, very disturbing, very angry, profanity-laced." Other reports describe Cho's murderous verbal insanities as a "manifesto."

Let's see. Don Imus calls some young women "nappy headed hos" and we're all supposed be to shocked, shocked I tell you. Cho blows away 32 human lives and not only do we hear no condemnation of the vile person from the big media, but NBC is going to oblige the piece of human debris by airing his "manifesto." Democrat presidential contenders refuse to appear on a Fox Network debate, citing bias, but I guess it's okay for NBC is going to realize Cho's dreams of celebrity status at the expense of 32 lives.

Cho may have been a deranged psycho, but he was sharp as a scalpel when it came to playing NBC News for his personal patsy. Anything for a point in the ratings. I'm sure the families of the deceased will appreciate the Cho Show as much as they appreciate Capus's inevitable defense of freedom of speech and the public's right to know. Though I don't NBC will delete any of Cho's possible references to "nappy headed hos."

Remember this the next time a member of the Aqua Net Martyrs' Brigade tries to discuss the "professionalism" or the "ethics" of the media. It's all about the ratings, and if anybody else gets killed by some copycat psycho, all the better---they'll be there to cover that too.

Why, with so many examples of the Left Wing Media doing the Democrats' bidding one might think they were actually, you know, biased or something:

One could go on with the furor over the misdirected pellets from Dick Cheney’s shotgun, or the clamor for the Rumsfeld resignation. Yet contrast all this hysteria with the slight whimpers surrounding recent controversies over conflicts of interest or lapses in judgment surrounding Richard Armitage, Harry Reid, or Dianne Feinstein. The destruction of federal documents that might well alter history’s consensus by former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger was a snore for most journalists.

What, then, is the one common tie that explains all these furious efforts of the media and partisans to go after these present and former Bush-administration officials?

The Best Take on the Imus Fiasco

It's a good rule of thumb in American scandals that, no matter how big an idiot someone is, the outrage over him will always be more idiotic. Let us take the easiest ones first. "I've received hundreds, if not thousands of e-mails, both internal and external, from people with very strong views about what should happen," said Steve Capus, president of NBC News. "And many of them are people who have worked at NBC News for decades, people who put their lives on the line covering wars and things like that." Is that a lobby group yet? War Correspondents Against Racism? Capus was taking no chances. "This decision was made after listening to the people who work for NBC News, who have placed a trust and respect the trust that America has given us."

Is it written somewhere in the Media Code of Ethics that you're not allowed to fire anyone without sounding like a pompous self-regarding bore? Playing catch-up and terminating Imus 24 hours after MSNBC, CBS chairman Les Moonves left NBC's "trust" and "respect" and "respect for the trust" in the dust: "We are now presented with a significant opportunity to expand on our record on issues of diversity, race and gender. We intend to seize that opportunity as we move forward together." That sounds like a helluva morning show you're developing there, Mr. Chairman. Unless it's just off-the-peg meaningless pap to be forgotten as soon as the press release is shoved in the filing cabinet.

Needless to say, Moonves fired Imus after first meeting with the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Rev. Al Sharpton. I have a dream that my children will one day live in a nation where a white guy can be fired for racist remarks without his employers having to prostrate themselves before clapped out professional grievance mongers and shakedown artists. But dream on. Two men who slandered the Duke lacrosse players not just as racists but as rapists (by the way, has the Rev. Jackson come through on his promise to pay for the "victim" to go to college?) are the go-to guys when it comes to judging rhetorical excess in respect of varsity sports teams. Surely even a network president isn't such a craven squish he can go through a meeting like that with a straight face?

Imus' sin was the one the Left consider to be the greatest of all sins, when not directed at whites or Jews: bigotry. To liberals, anything that smacks of racism brings out the punditry Inquisition more quickly than Nancy Pelosi can don a dhimmi scarf. They do not care about murder, infanticide, terrorism, or comparable crimes against humanity to anywhere near the frantic, knee-jerk, calling-all-cars frenzy they get into when some over-the-hill white guy says something racist.

Of course, Imus has said such things before, many times. He usually directed them toward whites and Jews, but ask Gwen Ifill about his "cleaning lady" remark if you want to hear about egregious comments about blacks too. And despite his bigotry, all the Lefty media pantheon turned out regularly to appear on his show.

Of course, it would not do to have a racist Lefty, so look for stepped-up efforts in coming months to transform Imus into a Rove-programmed neocon.

Meanwhile, bigots like Al Sharpton will continue to spew liberal-approved hate speech from secure ramparts in the LWM. After all, what are a few slandered cops, rape victims called "whore", or dead Jews compared to the "dialogue" the Left Reverend Sharpton fosters?
